A new way of easing pain

Breaking the vicious cycle of pain

Pain - especially chronic pain - can be a source of great misery: it makes many ordinary activities difficult, and the knock-on effect on family and social life can be devastating. This can also affect many other aspects of our health and well-being. We often think of pain as something we just have to live with, especially as we get older. In fact, the fear and tension that result from trying to cope can make things worse. Lissim is a gentle and effective self-help technique that can break the cycle of pain. Lissim can help you regain and maintain control, enhancing your energy and well-being.

Lissim is a touch technique developed specifically to ease pain. It can provide effective relief for a range of problems, especially where tension or spasm in muscle and connective tissue are involved. Spasm of this sort accounts for much common pain people experience, e.g. back pain, or tension headaches, and it also plays a part in conditions like irritable bowel syndrome and some other problems of the digestive tract.

With regular use and a little patience and attention, Lissim can also relieve widespread and chronic pain. People with the following conditions have benefited from Lissim:

  • Back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Limb pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Heartburn / indigestion
  • Hiccups
  • Irritable bowel syndrome

This list is not exhaustive, and we welcome enquiries from people with any type of pain. For example, in some conditions Lissim may also ease neuralgia and help reduce swelling and inflammation. It is important to note, however, that Lissim does not claim to cure any underlying disease or dysfunction of the musculo-skeletal or nervous system.

Important: Pain may be a symptom of a condition that needs medical attention. You should always consult your doctor. LISSIM is effective for a wide range of conditions, but may not be appropriate for everyone.

 Lissim touch

Lissim touch uses the fingertips, and is very light and non-invasive. It is precisely focused but flexible; treatment at the right points can often relieve pain over wide areas. Lissim puts you in control: most people can learn to ease their own pain after just 1-3 sessions. The Lissim teacher's role is to support you to acquire the skills and confidence to begin using Lissim yourself and, where appropriate, help with initial treatments.

The pain points on which Lissim treatment focuses are not the same as 'trigger points' used in chiropractic or myofascial release techniques, and they are not chosen with reference to acupuncture meridians or other traditional energy healing systems. Based on a different structural analysis, the identification of pain points in Lissim draws on, among others, the work of Thomas W. Myers and his theory of 'Anatomy Trains'. See Useful info and resources for details of this and other literature that has informed the development of Lissim.
